Cyprus’ relationship with Bahrain moves into a more tangible phase on Monday, as President Nikos Christodoulides continues his official visit to the Gulf state, combining high-level diplomacy with a strong emphasis on business, investment and institutional cooperation.

President Nikos Christodoulides is scheduled to address a business forum organised by the Cyprus and Bahrain Chambers of Commerce and to inaugurate the Republic of Cyprus’ new embassy in Manama, marking a milestone in bilateral diplomatic presence.

On Sunday, during meetings at the Royal Palace with King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, the Cypriot president described the visit as both symbolic and substantive, underlining a shared determination to deepen cooperation at political, strategic and economic levels. The Bahraini monarch welcomed the delegation, pointing to the long-standing and excellent relations between the two countries, rooted in mutual respect, shared values and constructive engagement.

Bahrain’s current role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2026–2027 was also noted during the discussions, adding geopolitical weight to the bilateral dialogue.

The visit yielded a series of concrete outcomes, including an agreement on the mutual recognition of higher education qualifications and memoranda of understanding covering military cooperation, diplomatic training, search and rescue education, culture, antiquities, handicrafts and tourism. An additional cooperation agreement was signed between the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce.

The president also visited Bahrain’s Investment Fund, where he met with senior executives in the presence of the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, focusing on investment opportunities and economic collaboration.

President Christodoulides is accompanied by the ministers of foreign affairs and energy, the government spokesman, the deputy minister to the president, the national security adviser and the director of his diplomatic office.
