Group calls for implementation of UN resolutions on Palestinian statehood.

The struggle of the Palestinian people is a cause shared by all peoples fighting for freedom, peace and justice because the struggle for Palestine is fundamentally “a struggle for human dignity and global peace”, the Pancyprian Peace Councilsaid in a statement marking 78 years since the Nakba.

The organisation said that in May 1948 the Palestinian people experienced “the great catastrophe, known as the Nakba”, adding that more than 700,000 Palestinians were forced into displacement “carrying only their memories and the keys to their homes”, while tens of thousands were killed.

The Pancyprian Peace Council expressed its “unreserved solidarity with the resilient Palestinian people” and joined its voice with those calling for “an end to the genocide, respect for international law and implementation of United Nations resolutions”.

The organisation said it stood alongside the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom, while demanding the implementation of UN resolutions and agreements providing for the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
