€60 Million Upgrades for Three Refugee Club Stadiums in Larnaca and Dasaki
The Ammochostos stadium in Larnaca, home of Nea Salamina in exile, is set for a full upgrade. On 14 May, the Department of Environment announced environmental approval for the renovation project of the stadium, which was built in the early 1990s. This is the second project included in a broader plan to upgrade stadiums used by refugee football clubs, following the Antonis Papadopoulos stadium of Anorthosis. The stadium of Ethnikos Achnas in Dasaki will follow, with the total cost for the three projects estimated at €60 million. As for Ammochostos, the facilities have long required modernisation. Planned works include increasing capacity by 2,041 seats, from 4,050 to 6,091 for seated spectators. An additional 40 seats will be allocated for persons with disabilities. The largest increase will come from the construction of a new stand with 1,360 seats on the north‑west side of the stadium, while seating in existing stands will also be expanded. A roof will be added and full renovation will be carried out on dressing rooms, medical areas and referees’ facilities, in line with UEFA standards. Further plans include the construction of VIP lounges and hospitality areas. Modern facilities will also be created to meet media coverage needs, while the floodlighting system will be upgraded. The renovation also includes upgrading sanitary facilities, improving accessibility for people with disabilities and reorganising parking areas, with 106 spaces within the development (including 15 for disabled access) and 181 spaces outside the site, along Ptolemaidas Street. The works are expected to last around two years and will be carried out in four phases, starting with the north‑east stand, where VIP areas and media facilities will be built. This phase is expected to take approximately 15 months.
