Saudi Arabia’s diplomacy warned against renewed “military escalation” in the Gulf, calling for mediation efforts to continue following exchanges of fire between US and Iranian armed forces that threaten to bring about the collapse of the ceasefire.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the concern of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the current military escalation in the region” and stresses the “need for de‑escalation, refraining from any further escalation and exercising restraint,” the ministry said in Arabic in a statement posted on X.

Support for mediation efforts
Riyadh also said it supports “Pakistan’s mediation and diplomatic efforts to reach a political solution that would prevent the region from sliding into renewed tensions and instability.”
Ceasefire in question
The ceasefire, in force since 8 April, is now being seriously questioned following Monday’s exchanges of fire between Iranian and American forces in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s attacks against one of its Gulf neighbours, the United Arab Emirates.
