Nicosia For Art Ltd, the management company of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, has announced the appointment of director, producer and creative director Paris Erotokritou as General Director of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and Artistic Director of the Nicosia International Festival.

According to a statement issued by the theatre, his portfolio, including a clear and dynamic vision for the future and his extensive experience in the cultural sector both in Cyprus and abroad, aligns closely with the organisation’s philosophy and strategic direction.

As General Director, Mr Erotokritou will be responsible for shaping and implementing the overall strategy of the organisation, as well as coordinating all key aspects of its operation, including artistic programming and the expansion of its international profile.

The statement also notes that he will place “particular emphasis on strengthening the organisation’s meaningful connection with society and the city of Nicosia through educational programmes, community initiatives and cultural projects”.

Commenting on the appointment, the theatre said it is confident that his presence will contribute significantly to the continued dynamic development of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and the Nicosia International Festival, as well as to the expansion of their creative horizons.

Biographical information

Paris Erotokritou is an award-winning theatre and film director, producer and artistic director with international experience and an extensive network in the performing arts sector. He graduated with distinction from the postgraduate directing programme of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, and is also a graduate of the Higher Drama School of Athens (Theodosiadis) and the Law School of King’s College London.

He has worked with leading theatres in the United Kingdom, including the Barbican, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Bush Theatre and the National Youth Theatre UK. He has also collaborated closely with internationally recognised creators such as Declan Donnellan OBE, Nadia Latif and Kerry Michael MBE.

In parallel, he has a strong entrepreneurial background as co-founder of the theatre-focused digital application Stagedoor. In 2010, he founded the Fresh Target Theatre Ensemble, whose productions left a significant mark on the theatre scene in Cyprus, including Nitsa, Hamlet, A Slight Risk, The Only Thing You Need to Know About Derrida and The New Order of Things.

He has also collaborated with the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOC) on major productions such as Incendies, Richard III and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

In 2015 he founded the Sputnik Theatre in Nicosia, which contributed to shaping a new generation of artists and audiences through its curated repertoire, support for emerging creators and groups, promotion of Cypriot dramaturgy and development of educational, community and social initiatives.

As a director, he has presented works across Cyprus’ major stages and festivals, including the Kypria International Festival, the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama, the Cyprus Theatre Organisation, Rialto Theatre, the Cyprus International Theatre Festival and the Nicosia Festival. His work has also been presented within the framework of Pafos – European Capital of Culture 2017 and the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2012.

He has collaborated with theatres and cultural organisations in Greece, including the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation and Petit Palais, and has participated internationally as a creative collaborator in major festivals and institutions such as the Holland Festival, the Craiova International Shakespeare Festival, the Brighton Festival and the Taiwan National Theatre.

As a producer, he has brought international productions to Cyprus and Greece, including Adolf, Churchill and The Fawlty Towers Dining Experience.

In 2025, he founded and organised the first edition of the “Shakespeare in the Mountains” Festival, the only festival dedicated to Shakespeare in the south-eastern Mediterranean, featuring international guests and collaborations.
