Temperature Rise Followed By Storms And Cooler Conditions Expected From Sunday

Dust in the atmosphere and unstable weather conditions forecast across Cyprus over the weekend.

Weak high pressure is affecting the region, while a low-pressure system is expected to influence the area over the weekend. Dust will also be present in the atmosphere during this period, with concentrations expected to increase at times.

Weather conditions today and tonight

Today, periods of locally increased cloud cover are expected, which may bring isolated and mainly light showers, particularly in mountainous areas and in the west. Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to west, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort and locally very strong at 5 to 6 Beaufort. The sea will be rough.

Temperatures will rise to around 20°C inland and along the coast, and about 9°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, intervals of locally increased cloud cover will continue and isolated light showers remain possible in mountainous areas and the west. Winds will be mainly southwesterly, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort and temporarily strong along the coast at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough to rough.

Temperatures will fall to around 9°C inland, about 11°C along the coast and approximately 3°C in the higher mountains, where local frost may form.

Weekend outlook

On Saturday, increased medium and high cloud cover is expected.

On Sunday, the weather will become mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Conditions are expected to improve noticeably from the afternoon onwards.

On Monday, the weather will be partly cloudy, while isolated showers cannot be ruled out.

Temperature trend and snow levels

Temperatures on Saturday will record a slight increase, remaining slightly above the seasonal average. On Sunday and Monday, temperatures are expected to gradually drop noticeably.

At the time the bulletin was issued, the snow depth at Chionistra was recorded at 24 centimetres.
