The most fierce snowstorm in decades has reached the northeast, after leaving a number of central and southern American states with a massive aftermath, including more than a million homes and businesses minus electricity mostly in the south, according to poweroutage.us, 15 thousand flights cancelled and thousands more marking significant delays.
Temperatures in a number of areas will drop to a record -45, particularly in central states, more akin to north pole conditions, as the National Weather Service referred to the possibly 'catastrophic' repercussions of the cold snap, heavy snowstorms and hazardous frost across the road network.
΄Τhe consequences of the snow and frost will be felt through to next week,' the NWS said, warning drivers and pedestrians to limit their outdoor activity as much as possible in dangerous daily circumstances.
Where the snowstorm has arrived
Major snowfalls have begun in northeastern cities on the Atlantic snow with a layer of several centimetres, covering Washington's central roads and sidewalks, as the nation's capital has been declared in a state of emergency.
At least 20 states have done the same, with the snowstorm approaching.

'We will keep monitoring and maintain contact with all states that lie in the storm's path, so stay safe and warm,' Donald Trump said on Truth Social.
Central US air hubs, such as New York, Washington and Philadelphia have essentially closed down, with 15 thousand flights to and from the country cancelled over the weekend, according to FlightAware.
Even Houston, Texas, never associated with such cold snaps, has seen temperatures drop to below zero, with schools remaining closed today.
