Heavy Traffic in Troodos, Controlled Access to Mount Olympus

Drivers urged to exercise patience as congestion builds amid winter conditions in the mountains

Troodos is experiencing heavy traffic, with increased vehicle flow recorded across the area since the morning hours.

Due to congestion, access from Troodos Square towards the summit of Mount Olympus is being controlled by the authorities in an effort to ease pressure on the road network and prevent further bottlenecks.

Police and relevant services are monitoring the situation, as the combination of increased visitor numbers and winter weather conditions has led to delays, particularly along routes leading to higher elevations. Drivers heading towards the mountains are advised that waiting times may increase, especially during peak hours.

Motorists are urged to proceed with caution, remain patient and comply with instructions issued by traffic officers on site. Particular attention is recommended due to lower temperatures in the area, as well as the possibility of fog or slippery road surfaces in parts of the road network.

Authorities also remind drivers to ensure their vehicles are suitable for mountain driving and to avoid unnecessary travel towards the summit until traffic conditions improve.
