The two leaders discussed Turkey–US relations as well as wider regional and international issues.
Erdogan described the decision to extend the ceasefire in the ongoing conflict as a positive step. He said he believed a reasonable solution to disputed issues was possible and stressed that Turkey would continue to support ongoing constructive initiatives.
Erdogan also highlighted that establishing stability in Syria would benefit the entire region. He added that Turkey’s support for Syria would continue uninterrupted, while stressing the need to prevent any further deterioration of the situation in Lebanon.
The conversation also covered preparations for the NATO summit in Ankara. Erdogan said work was continuing and that Turkey was making every effort to ensure the meeting would be successful in all respects.
Erdogan also expressed condolences to Trump over what he described as a “heinous attack” at a mosque in San Diego, noting that Turkey opposes such hate crimes regardless of the religious group targeted.
