At least three people were killed and 12 others injured following a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack across the Moscow region, local officials confirmed on Sunday. The strikes form part of a wider wave of aerial bombardments that forced Russian air defence systems into intensive action over the weekend.

Regional damage and casualties
The casualties occurred across different residential sectors of the Moscow oblast. Andrei Vorobyov, the Governor of the Moscow region, announced via the Telegram messaging app that a woman was killed when a residential home was struck in Khimki, a city located just north of the capital. Emergency services and rescue teams deployed to the site to extract another individual trapped beneath the structural debris.
In a separate strike within the Mytishchi district, two men lost their lives in the village of Pogorelki. Governor Vorobyov noted that the overnight operations caused varying degrees of damage to several high-rise residential buildings as well as local infrastructure facilities.
Military and infrastructure response
In the capital itself, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that the primary technical infrastructure of the Moscow oil refinery escaped damage during the overnight raids. He added that municipal and military teams successfully downed more than 120 drones within the preceding 24-hour period, though at least three houses in the area suffered material damage.
The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation released a broader statement claiming that air defence units intercepted and destroyed a total of 556 drones across the country overnight and into Sunday morning, with a significant concentration focused on the airspace surrounding the capital region.
