Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israeli intelligence services, after the death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court, according to judicial news agency Mizan.
According to the human rights organisation HRANA, the 32‑year‑old, identified as Ehsan Afrasteh, was arrested in 2024 and sentenced to death in 2025 on what the organisation described as fabricated testimony.
“Ehsan Afrasteh, a spy trained by Mossad in Nepal who sold sensitive information to Israel, was executed,” Mizan reported.
“He was arrested and tried for espionage and cooperation with the Zionist regime and was hanged this morning, Wednesday, after the Supreme Court confirmed the verdict,” the agency added.
On Monday, Iranian authorities also announced the execution of an aerospace engineering student accused of spying for Israeli and US intelligence services.
Arrests and executions, particularly in espionage‑related cases, have increased in Iran since the outbreak of the war on 28 February, following Israeli‑American strikes against the Islamic Republic.
According to human rights organisations, including Amnesty International, Iran carries out more executions than any country other than China.
