George Danos: US Disclosure Puts UFO Debate Back in Spotlight

Newly released videos show unusual flight dynamics that are difficult to explain through known human technology, while NASA-era records from the Apollo missions refer to unidentified objects.

The release of declassified US material on unidentified aerial phenomena marks the start of a new phase of disclosures, George Danos, President of the Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation, told CNA. Danos said the coming period could prove significant in efforts to understand whether humanity is alone in the universe and whether Earth is being visited by advanced beings with major technological capabilities.

He was asked to comment on the US decision to declassify and publish files on unidentified flying objects as part of a new initiative aimed at greater transparency around what are now referred to as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAP. “As expected, based on previous statements made at the highest level in the US, the release of multiple declassified videos has begun. Hundreds of millions of people have already rushed to download and view them, showing strong interest from the wider public,” Danos said.

He said the “promising era of disclosure on this issue has clearly begun”, noting that in the past pilots who observed such phenomena often did not feel able to come forward and report their experiences, but that this has now changed. According to Danos, senior officials have indicated that a broader shift should be expected in how the issue is handled, with greater public exposure likely over time. He added that some have even stated that humanity is not alone in the universe. “I have seen some of the videos that have been released, which show highly unusual flight dynamics that are very unlikely to be attributed to conventional high-tech human engineering capabilities,” he said.

Danos also referred to NASA videos from the Gemini and Apollo missions, in which astronauts are recorded saying they saw unusual objects described as “bogeys”, a term used for an unidentified aircraft or radar contact that may be potentially hostile. He said more releases should be expected in order to better understand what he described as “extremely interesting and highly unusual phenomena”. “I would certainly like to know whether we are alone in the universe and, more specifically, whether we are being visited by extremely advanced beings with enormous technological capabilities. The coming period appears promising in terms of shedding light on this issue,” Danos concluded.
