Kontides Set for European Championship Battle in Croatia

Cypriot sailor to compete in one of the most competitive editions in recent years

Pavlos Kontides is set to compete in the European Sailing Championship in Croatia. The event begins on Sunday, 17 May, and concludes on Friday, 22 May, with races taking place in Kastela.

According to organisers, this year’s competition is expected to be one of the most competitive in recent years, based on participation in the ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 classes.

In the ILCA 7 category, where Kontides will compete, several leading names in international sailing are also set to take part. These include Europe’s Tonci Stipanovic, Filip Jurisic, Philipp Buhl and Jonatan Vadnai, as well as non‑European sailors Stefano Peschiera, George Gautrey and Thomas Saunders.

Cyprus will also be represented in the category by Aimilios Boeros, while Anatoli Zubofski will compete in the ILCA 6 class. Marilena Makri will represent Cyprus in the women’s ILCA 6 category.

The first two races in Kastela are scheduled for Sunday, followed by two races each on Monday and Tuesday, completing six qualifying races.

The final phase will take place over the following three days, leading up to Friday, 22 May, with six final races determining the final standings.
