Alexandros Panayiotou has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court, with President Nikos Christodoulides stressing that no one is above the law.
Speaking at the appointment ceremony on Monday, May 11, 2026, Christodoulides said the independence of justice and full respect for the rule of law are “non-negotiable principles” of governance.
He underlined that justice is administered exclusively in courtrooms and that the courts must remain independent, credible and effective.
The President also said that the quality, speed and effectiveness of the administration of justice remain both a constant challenge and a legitimate demand of society.
He added that the government is continuing reforms aimed at strengthening the judicial system.
“The presence of people with experience, knowledge and proven integrity in the highest judicial posts is of decisive importance for strengthening citizens’ trust in institutions,” Christodoulides said.
