Cyprus’ Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning for isolated severe thunderstorms, valid from 11:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

According to the warning, the storms are expected to mainly affect inland and mountainous areas. Rainfall intensity is forecast to range between 35 and 50 millimetres per hour, while hail is also possible.

Weak low pressure and an unstable air mass are affecting the region.

Tonight, locally increased low cloud is expected, while thin mist or fog may form in places during the early morning hours, mainly in the southeast. Winds will blow mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, light at 3 Beaufort, and temporarily light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, in coastal areas. The sea will gradually become slight. Temperatures will fall to around 14C inland, around 16C on the coast and around 8C in the higher mountains.

On Saturday, the weather will initially be partly cloudy and locally mainly cloudy, with isolated showers possible, mainly in coastal areas. From midday onwards, local showers and thunderstorms are expected, particularly in the mountains and the eastern half of the island, where the phenomena may be more intense. Hail is possible during thunderstorms.

On Sunday and Monday, increased cloud after midday is expected to bring isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains and inland areas.

Temperatures on Saturday will fall to below the seasonal average, with no significant change expected on Sunday and Monday.
