Koutrafa Fire Brought Under Control After Burning 1.5 Square Kilometres

A fire that broke out near Koutrafa burned dry vegetation, wild growth and olive trees before being contained.

 

A fire that broke out in the Koutrafa area early on Tuesday afternoon has been brought under control after burning around 1.5 square kilometres of dry vegetation, wild growth and olive trees.

Firefighting crews remain in the area to complete the final stages of extinguishing the blaze.

According to the Fire Service, two fire engines from the Peristerona and Evrychou rural fire stations took part in the operation.

They were assisted by seven fire engines, an agricultural tractor and a water tanker from the Department of Forests, with 28 personnel involved. The volunteer teams SOS and ATLAS-DIAS also supported the response.

“Firefighting forces will remain in the area for final extinguishing,” the Fire Service said.
