Rainfall in Cyprus has reached 163% of the normal level for May as of Friday, May 15, with several areas already exceeding three times the average monthly rainfall.
From the start of the month until Friday, average rainfall in the government-controlled areas stood at 31.9 millimetres, compared with the normal monthly average of 19.6 millimetres.
The highest surplus compared with the normal level was recorded at Paphos airport, where rainfall reached 385% of the monthly average. It was followed by the new port of Limassol with 357%, Polis with 356% and Stavros tis Psokas with 340%.
In terms of volume, the highest average rainfall since the beginning of the month was recorded at Stavros tis Psokas, with 92.4 millimetres. The lowest was recorded in Xylotymbou, with just 7.1 millimetres.
Since the start of the hydrological year on October 1, average rainfall now stands at 114% of the normal level, with all areas except Lythrodontas, at 97%, exceeding 100%.
Overall, average rainfall in the government-controlled areas from October 1 until May 15 reached 555 millimetres, compared with the normal average of 453.2 millimetres for the period.
