Tourist Arrivals Down 28% in April as Key Markets Decline

Cyprus recorded another double-digit drop in tourist arrivals in April, although the decline was slightly smaller than in March.

 

Tourist arrivals in Cyprus fell by 27.6% in April 2026, reaching 303,031 compared with 418,730 in April 2025, according to figures published by the Statistical Service on Monday.

The decline followed a 30.7% drop recorded in March, indicating that the downturn in arrivals continued, though at a slightly slower pace.

The United Kingdom remained the main source of tourism in April, accounting for 39.2% of total arrivals, with 118,742 visitors. Poland followed with 8.4%, or 25,371 arrivals, Germany with 8.0%, or 24,178, Israel with 5.3%, or 15,997, and Greece with 4.7%, or 14,255.

Arrivals from Israel recorded the sharpest annual decline among the main markets, falling by 74.8% compared with April 2025. Arrivals from the United Kingdom were down 21.8%, while those from Germany fell by 18.4%. Arrivals from Greece decreased by 12.8% and from Poland by 12.5%.

In terms of purpose of visit, 73.0% of tourists travelled to Cyprus for holidays in April 2026, while 17.7% visited friends or relatives and 9.2% travelled for business. In April 2025, 80.3% of visitors came for holidays, 12.7% to visit friends or relatives and 6.9% for business purposes.

For the January-April 2026 period, tourist arrivals reached 710,370, compared with 865,326 in the same period of 2025, marking a decrease of 17.9%.

Travel by Cyprus residents broadly unchanged

Trips abroad by residents of Cyprus stood at 164,357 in April 2026, compared with 164,844 in April 2025, recording a marginal decrease of 0.3%.

The main countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in April 2026 were Greece, accounting for 32.1% of trips, or 52,837, followed by the United Kingdom with 6.8%, or 11,219, Italy with 6.0%, or 9,841, and Romania with 4.2%, or 6,931.
