IT one of the fastest growing sectors in Cyprus' economy, attracting foreign investment.

The government’s commitment to attracting quality investment and strengthening Cyprus’ position as a technology destination was stressed by Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Dr Nicodemos Damianou during a discussion held as part of the event “FDI shifts and the future of Europe’s investment landscape – Regulatory and investment conditions in Cyprus”, organised by Invest Cyprus.

According to Invest Cyprus, the event took place at The Westin, Washington National Harbor, in collaboration with fDi Intelligence and the Financial Times on May 4, and formed part of the fourth joint initiative with fDi Intelligence and FT Locations promoting Cyprus as an investment and technology destination.

US tech companies

Moderated by Danielle Myles, Senior Editor at fDi Intelligence, the discussion brought together founders and investors who examined Cyprus’ role as a strategic EU entry point for US technology companies navigating an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

Invest Cyprus also participated in the SelectUSA Investment Summit, holding meetings with companies considering establishing a presence in Europe, the announcement said.

Cyprus’ growing appeal to technology companies is reflected in developments such as the arrival of Tenstorrent, the launch of the Plug and Play Tech Center and the strategic partnership with NVIDIA for a national supercomputer.

Deputy CEO of Invest Cyprus Lia Riris said “IT is one of the fastest growing sectors in Cyprus and one of the most significant contributors to our economy”.

She added that “promoting it in the United States, a market where we are seeing increasing interest and concrete action towards Cyprus, is both a priority and an opportunity”.

Riris said the companies they met “are looking for an EU base that is straightforward to operate from, with a clear legal and tax framework and a government that is actively investing in innovation”.

“We are here to show them that Cyprus fits that description,” she said.
