The Cyprus Confederation of Disability Organisations (ΚΥΣΟΑ) has reacted sharply to a recent social media post involving a person with Down syndrome, calling it public humiliation and demanding immediate intervention from the relevant authorities.
In a statement posted on social media, ΚΥΣΟΑ accused the authorities of inaction, singling out the Cybercrime Division for what it called a failure to take meaningful steps to identify those involved. The confederation said it was baffling that the division had not acted, when even a basic search on social media could help identify the people responsible.
ΚΥΣΟΑ stressed that human dignity cannot be treated as negotiable, saying the public humiliation of a person with Down syndrome is not "content." It is abuse. The confederation called on the relevant authorities to launch an immediate investigation, ensure the protection of the person affected, and establish accountability wherever it is found. "We demand an immediate investigation, protection for the person affected, and accountability," the statement concluded.
