The Cyprus Fire Service was placed on heightened operational alert on Friday after responding to two serious incidents in Nicosia and Larnaca within the space of 30 minutes.
According to an update from the Fire Service, two fire engines from the Lakatamia Fire Station were dispatched at 13:19 to Makedonitissa, near the International State Fair area, after a fire broke out in open ground.
The blaze was brought under control following the immediate intervention of firefighters. It burned around three decares of dry vegetation, a number of trees and discarded materials.
Earlier, at 12:47, a vehicle and rescue team from the Larnaca Fire Station were mobilised following a serious collision involving two vehicles on the Meneou to Pervolia road.
One person was trapped as a result of the crash. Firefighters carried out an extrication operation using specialist rescue equipment.
The injured person was handed over to an ambulance crew and taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of Larnaca General Hospital.
Authorities are investigating the causes of both the fire and the road collision.
