A total of 74 infrastructure projects, with a combined budget of €125 million, are either under way or due to begin soon in the city and district of Larnaca through the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation.
The organisation’s president, Angelos Hadjicharalambous, said a press conference will be held soon to present an account of the work carried out so far and provide details on projects currently in progress or planned for the near future.
Hadjicharalambous said the organisation, which will complete two years of operation in two months, inherited a number of long-standing problems when it took over responsibilities in the summer of 2024. These include water supply, stormwater management, licensing and dangerous buildings.
He referred to “chronic weaknesses” in services that, he said, had not been functioning properly in previous years. He also stressed the need for legislative regulation, as well as state support, so that the organisation can respond more effectively and provide better solutions.
“These are weaknesses that should have been resolved years ago,” he said.
From June 1, the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation will also launch a targeted water-saving campaign, aimed at strengthening water awareness among residents.
According to Hadjicharalambous, the goal is for every Larnaca resident to save between 25 and 30 litres of water per day.
