Driver Tests Positive in Drug Test After 24-Year-Old Road Worker Hit on Motorway

A 37-year-old driver has been arrested after a preliminary drug test returned a positive indication, while the injured worker remains in extremely critical condition.

 

Police have arrested a 37-year-old driver in connection with a serious road collision on Thursday on the Paphos-Limassol motorway, in which a 24-year-old worker was critically injured.

According to a police announcement, the collision occurred at around 9:40 a.m. near Sotira, when a car driven by the 37-year-old, under circumstances being investigated, hit the 24-year-old, who was working as part of a roadworks crew on the motorway. The vehicle then struck a large illuminated flashing arrow sign before coming to a stop.

The 24-year-old was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where he was found to have suffered multiple injuries. His condition is described as extremely critical. The driver was subjected to a preliminary drug test, which returned a positive indication, and was subsequently arrested.

Limassol Traffic Police and Episkopi Police Station are continuing investigations.
