Fire Near Lythrodontas Forest Brought Under Control

A small fire broke out just 150 metres from the state forest, prompting an immediate response by forestry crews.

 

A fire that threatened the Lythrodontas state forest was brought under full control on Thursday afternoon, according to the Department of Forests.

The fire broke out at around 17:00 in the Lemonies area of the Lythrodontas community, in the Nicosia district. The Department said the blaze started just 150 metres from the boundaries of the Lythrodontas state forest.

Forestry firefighting crews responded immediately and managed to bring the fire under control by 17:13, after it burned a small area covered with low wild vegetation.

A total of 14 members of the Department of Forests took part in the operation, using four fire engines and one water tanker.

The causes of the fire are being investigated by the Police.
