Greenhouse Gas Emissions up by 1.67% in Cyprus

Eurostat figures reveal increase in Q4 2025, while countries such as Finland recorded reductions.

Seasonally adjusted greenhouse gas emissions in Cyprus increased by 1.67% in the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with the third quarter of the same year, according to Eurostat data published on Wednesday.

It is noted that in the third quarter of 2025, Cyprus had recorded a decrease of 3.73%. At EU level, emissions increased in 19 member states in the final quarter of 2025, decreased in 7, and remained stable in Germany, compared with the previous quarter, with the EU average standing at 0.86%.

The largest reductions were recorded in Finland (-3.2%), Malta (-2.0%) and Czechia (-0.6%), with these same countries simultaneously recording GDP growth.

In contrast, the largest increase in emissions was recorded in Slovenia, with 22.65%, followed by Estonia with 11.10%.

The countries that recorded a decrease in emissions in the fourth quarter of 2025 were Bulgaria, Czechia, Spain, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia and Finland, while all of them simultaneously recorded an increase in GDP.
