Police in Limassol are investigating the alleged abduction of a two-year-old child by the child’s 29-year-old Turkish Cypriot father, following a complaint filed by the child’s 35-year-old British mother.
The child was taken to the north, according to police, while a new arrest warrant is expected to be issued against the suspect.
Limassol Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou told CNA that the incident occurred at around 7:50 on Wednesday morning at the home where the mother lives with the child in the Limassol district.
According to the complaint, the father entered the house with another person, forcibly took the child and left. Police inquiries later indicated that he had returned to the north.
Kyriakou said police also established that an arrest warrant was already pending against the 29-year-old in connection with a domestic violence case reported by the 35-year-old in 2025, after she arrived in the government-controlled areas from the north.
Police are also investigating how the suspect managed to cross into the government-controlled areas and then return to the north. Investigators are examining a video posted on social media on Wednesday by the 29-year-old, showing him with the child inside a car.
