Forest Fire Near Ineia Village Brought Under Control

Early detection by the Forestry Department's surveillance system allowed crews to contain the blaze within 35 minutes.

 

A forest fire that broke out on Saturday afternoon in the Paphos district community of Ineia was brought under control within 35 minutes, the Forestry Department announced.

The fire started at 1.45pm at a location known as Agaismos in the Ineia community area. It was detected early by the Forestry Department's electro-optical forest fire detection and surveillance system, allowing ground crews to intervene rapidly. The fire was contained by 2.20pm, having burned a small area of low vegetation.

Six Forestry Department personnel with two firefighting vehicles took part in the operation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
