The data show that the use of digital business tools across the EU varies sharply depending on company size, with a clear gap between small and large enterprises.
The applications covered by Eurostat include enterprise resource planning systems, customer relationship management software and business intelligence tools used for data analysis.
Across the EU, 41% of small enterprises use ERP software, compared with 89% of large enterprises, a gap of 48 percentage points. For business intelligence tools, usage ranges from 11% among small businesses to 69% among large ones, while CRM systems are used by 25% of small enterprises and 65% of large enterprises.
Overall, just over half of EU enterprises, 53%, use at least one specialised e-business application, whether ERP, CRM or business intelligence.
Eurostat also recorded significant differences between member states. The highest rates were reported in Denmark and Finland, both at 73%, followed by Belgium and the Netherlands at 70%, and Spain at 66%.
At the other end of the scale, the lowest rates were recorded in Bulgaria at 31%, Romania at 32% and Slovakia at 34%.
