Both girls are being treated at Makarios Hospital. According to the latest information, the 12-year-old is intubated in the intensive care unit (ICU), while her sister is in serious but stable condition.

The tragedy occurred at around 6.20pm yesterday afternoon, when police received a report of a drowning incident at the CTO beach.
The mother and two of her three minor children, two girls aged 12 and 13, were in the sea. The mother was pulled from the water unconscious and, despite resuscitation efforts, was pronounced dead.
The two girls were initially taken to Larnaca General Hospital before being transferred to Makarios Hospital.
According to checks carried out so far, the family are European nationals, comprising five members.

A tragedy occurred on Saturday afternoon at KOT beach in Larnaca, where a woman died by drowning while her two minor children were also endangered and taken to Makarios Hospital.
What happened
According to information available so far, the family involved, a European family of five, was at the beach at the time. The 35-year-old mother and her two daughters, aged 13 and 12, entered the sea at around 6:30pm, while the area was experiencing rough sea conditions.
The three of them got into difficulty and were spotted by other beachgoers, who rushed to pull them to shore.
The aftermath
The woman died, while the two children were initially taken to Larnaca General Hospital. One of the girls was subsequently transferred to Makarios Hospital, in Nicosia, due to the seriousness of her condition.
Timing and circumstances
The incident occurred shortly after the lifeguard service in the area had ended for the day. The family's third child had remained on the beach with the father.

Members of the Larnaca CID are at the scene, investigating the circumstances under which the tragic incident occurred.
