seventy-five year old woman from Scotland lost her life following a fatal road accident inside a hotel parking lot in Paphos on Friday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Margery Balfour.

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 13:50 when a fifty-six year old male driver was attempting to exit the hotel parking facility in his saloon car.

Sequence of the accident

According to evidence currently under investigation by traffic police, the driver initially noticed the elderly woman walking nearby and stopped his vehicle to grant her the right of way.

An ambulance was immediately called to the scene, and paramedics rushed the injured woman to the Paphos General Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was admitted straight into the operating theatre. However, she succumbed to her wounds during surgery.

The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested under a court warrant and has been placed in police custody to facilitate ongoing interrogations. The Paphos Traffic Department is continuing its full investigation into the exact circumstances of the collision.
