The Paralimni-Dherynia Municipality has launched a unified tourism development and marketing strategy aimed at positioning the newly merged local government area as a cohesive international destination. Developed in collaboration with international brand strategist Peter Economides, the initiative was officially introduced at the Paralimni-Dherynia municipal hall alongside the unveiling of a new identity and logo under the title Protaras Riviera.
The promotional strategy integrates Protaras, Kapparis, Pernera, Paralimni, Dherynia, Frenaros and Acheritou under a single brand. The core objective of the initiative is to leverage the global recognition of Protaras as the primary tourism driver while incorporating the history, culture, and natural heritage of the four surrounding municipal departments into a broader destination narrative.
The local authority intends for the campaign to increase international competitiveness and modernise the regional profile on the global tourism map.

Transition to experiential tourism
Municipal officials emphasized that the new branding establishes a structured framework for long-term promotion, providing the region with a distinct identity and strategic direction. The initiative marks a policy shift from marketing basic tourism products toward managing a holistic hospitality experience.
The successful implementation of the framework relies on active collaboration across local sectors. The municipality plans to integrate hoteliers, business owners, tourism professionals, regional stakeholders, residents and municipal staff into the delivery of the unified brand.
Diversification beyond sun and sea
The strategic plan places significant emphasis on diversifying the tourism offering to supplement the traditional sun-and-sea model that has historically dominated the region.
The expansion strategy targets several high-growth niches to attract visitors year-round. These include culinary tourism, cultural and historical heritage, religious landmarks, sports tourism, diving infrastructure and eco-tourism initiatives.
