The Limassol Assize Court has sentenced a man to four years in prison following a violent physical assault against a state attorney inside a courtroom. The attack took place on 3 April 2026, immediately after the defendant had received a separate prison sentence for an unrelated criminal case.
The victim, a counsel of the Republic representing the Attorney-General, suffered grievous bodily harm during the incident. The assault occurred as police officers were escorting the convict out of the courtroom, at which point he broke free and struck the public prosecutor in the head with his fists.
Moments prior to the attack, the court had sentenced the man to a four-year prison term for a series of offenses committed against a woman, including kidnapping with intent to wrongfully confine, causing actual bodily harm, and inflicting psychological violence.
The Limassol Assize Court ruled that the new four-year sentence for the assault on the state attorney must be served consecutively. Consequently, the defendant will begin serving the additional term only after completing his initial sentence for the domestic violence and kidnapping convictions.
