Iran has executed at least 21 people and arrested more than 4,000 citizens since the start of the war in the Middle East, the United Nations said on Wednesday.

According to the UN Human Rights Office, since late February, when US and Israeli strikes triggered the conflict, nine people were executed in connection with January 2026 protests, ten for alleged involvement in opposition groups and two on espionage charges.

The office added that more than 4,000 individuals have been detained since 28 February on charges related to national security.
