Novak Djokovic advanced comfortably to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, after his scheduled fourth-round opponent, Jakub Mensik, withdrew from the tournament due to injury.

The 20-year-old Czech announced his withdrawal on Saturday, January 25, one day before his match against Djokovic was due to be played in Melbourne, citing a problem with his abdominal muscles.

“After doing everything possible to continue, I have to withdraw from the Australian Open due to an abdominal muscle injury that has worsened over the last matches,” Mensik wrote in a post on Instagram. “Now it’s time to recover properly.”

As a result, Djokovic progresses to the last eight without playing, continuing his pursuit of another Grand Slam title in Melbourne.
