It's the second quake to hit the area in two months.

The German Geoscience Centre had earlier reported a 7,1 much more shallow quake, at 10 kilometres.

As reported by Reuters, the depth of this morning‘s massive tremor, the second in two months to hit the Kamtsatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East, prevented the creation of a tsunami.

The quake was measured by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre of the US National Meteorology Service, based in Hawaii, at 7.4 on the Richter scale, at a depth of 39,5 kilometre.

The German Geoscience Centre had earlier reported a 7,1 much more shallow quake, at 10 kilometres, warning of a tsunami.

In Japan, southwest of the Kamtsatka peninsula, no such warning was issued, according to the NHK national network, citing the Meteorological Service.

The area remained on alert.
