Nearly one in three Cypriot employees earns gross monthly wages of up to €1,500, according to figures released on Wednesday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
A further 43.9% of Cypriot workers fall within the €1,500 to €2,999 income bracket, which represents the largest share of domestic employees.
Another 15.5% earn between €3,000 and €4,499, 6.7% between €4,500 and €5,999, while just 3.8% of Cypriot employees report gross monthly earnings exceeding €6,000.
Non-Cypriot employees
Among non-Cypriot employees, the income distribution differs significantly. Nearly half, 49.1%, earn less than €1,500 per month, while 31.5% fall within the €1,500 to €2,999 bracket.
At the upper end of the scale, 7.6% of non-Cypriot employees earn more than €6,000 per month. A further 7.1% receive between €3,000 and €4,499, and 4.7% between €4,500 and €5,999.
Overall workforce
Across the total workforce, including both Cypriot and non-Cypriot employees, 36.5% earn up to €1,500, while 39.7% fall in the €1,500 to €2,999 income category. A further 12.7% receive between €3,000 and €4,499.
Employees earning more than €4,500 per month account for a combined 11% of the workforce.
Average earnings and gender gap
Average gross monthly earnings for all employees during the third quarter of 2025 are estimated at €2,452, compared with €2,352 in the corresponding quarter of 2024, marking an annual increase of 4.3%.
Average gross monthly earnings for men stood at €2,622, compared with €2,238 for women. On an annual basis, men’s earnings increased by 3.8%, while women’s earnings rose by 4.9%.
In terms of earnings distribution by gender, the largest share of male employees, 41.3%, earns between €1,500 and €2,999. Among women, the highest proportion, 40.5%, is recorded in the lowest income bracket, with earnings below €1.500.
Earnings by nationality
By nationality, the highest proportion of Cypriot employees, 43.9%, falls within the €1,500 to €2,999 earnings category.
In contrast, among non-Cypriot employees, the largest share, 49.1%, earns less than €1,500 per month.
At the highest earnings level, €6,000 and above, 3.8% of Cypriot employees are represented, compared with 7.6% of non-Cypriot employees.
