Taxpayers Eager for Information on Tax Reform

Taxpayers and organised bodies are showing strong interest in understanding the changes introduced by the tax reform that came into force on 1 January 2026, according to the Sotiris Markides, Head of the Tax Department.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Markides said that demand for information has been particularly high following the adoption of the new tax legislation.

More than 8,000 participants in briefings

According to Markides, more than 8,000 people are expected to participate in presentations that have already taken place or are scheduled to be held by officials of the Tax Department of Cyprus.

The presentations are organised in cooperation with organised groups and professional bodies, including business and employer associations, trade unions and large private companies, focusing on the key changes introduced under the tax reform applicable from the 2026 tax year.

Daily presentations since mid-January

Presentations have been taking place on a daily basis since Tuesday, 12 January 2026, either in person or online, depending on the needs and requests of each organisation.

Markides noted that the format and scope of each presentation varies, ensuring targeted and practical guidance for different audiences.

Extensive online material published

He also pointed out that since Friday, 9 January 2026, the Tax Department has uploaded extensive and practical material on its website, following what he described as “very intensive work”.

The published material aims to provide timely and accurate information to the public and professionals on the changes brought about by the 2026 tax reform, which in the first phase affects natural persons and the way their income is taxed.

What is available online

According to Markides, the following material has already been published:

  • Form T.F.59, Declaration for Claiming Tax Allowances for the 2026 tax year, in Greek and English

  • An explanatory guide on the implementation of the tax reform for individuals who are tax residents of Cyprus (from the 2026 tax year)

  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) with corresponding answers

  • Practical examples illustrating the application of the tax reform for individuals

  • An Income Tax Calculation Tool

He added that this material will continue to be enriched and updated whenever necessary, particularly when feedback from presentations highlights areas requiring further clarification.

Call for careful study by taxpayers

The Head of the Tax Department urged taxpayers to study the available material carefully and to stay continuously informed in order to fully understand the new concepts and deductions introduced for individuals.

He highlighted the Income Tax Calculation Tool as particularly user-friendly and effective, allowing users to input their financial data and calculate income tax before and after the reform, as well as the resulting tax benefit.

“All taxpayers will benefit”

Concluding, Markides reiterated that all taxpayers who had an obligation to pay income tax in previous years will clearly benefit from the tax reform, underlining that the changes are designed to provide tangible tax relief across the board.
