Report led by Cypriot MEP Michalis Hadjipantela secures broad backing following cross-party negotiations.

A report on the European Parliament’s 2027 budget has been approved by a strong majority in plenary, with Cypriot MEP Michalis Hadjipantela playing a central role as rapporteur.

Hadjipantela expressed satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting the extensive consultations he held with shadow rapporteurs from across political groups to build consensus on the effective use of EU resources.

He thanked colleagues from all groups for their cooperation and support, making special reference to the European People’s Party for entrusting him with a file of strategic importance, particularly as a representative of Cyprus, one of the EU’s smaller member states.

The budget prioritises strengthening core functions, cybersecurity, and the digital and green transitions, aiming to enhance the Parliament’s efficiency and resilience. The total budget amounts to €2.6 billion.

Hadjipantela said the 2027 budget reflects “a clear political choice: we are investing in a strong, modern and resilient Parliament that responds to citizens’ needs and the challenges of our time.”
