Police have arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with an online fraud case involving the alleged misappropriation of €24,440 in Nicosia.

According to information under investigation, a 49-year-old man was defrauded after online communication with individuals unknown to him, who persuaded him to invest money. As a result of the deception, the perpetrators managed to obtain a total amount of €24,440.

The 49-year-old filed a complaint with the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Subsequently, the perpetrators attempted to extract additional funds by contacting him again and asking him to pay a further €13,100, allegedly in order to release the supposed profits generated by his investments. The victim then informed the police.

Following examinations and a police operation carried out yesterday by members of the Nicosia CID, in cooperation with the 49-year-old complainant, evidence emerged against the 60-year-old suspect. He was arrested yesterday on the basis of a court-issued arrest warrant and was taken into custody for the purposes of the investigation.

The case is being investigated by the Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Nicosia CID.
